Flower Choices & Advice

Well ladies ..... when it comes to choosing flowers for your special day, there are many factors to consider to achieve the look you desire.

1.  Season - Are the flowers you are wanting in season or available at the time?

Many spieces of flora are available all year round nowadays such as Roses, Asters, Chrysanthemums, Gerbera and Lillies;  other types may only be available for a month or two, especially Spring flowers such as Freesias and Callas.

2.  Harmony - Choose one florist to do all your arrangements so all pieces harmonise together.  Too many cooks can spoil the broth.  Trust your florist.

3.  Style - Think about your venue, personality, wedding theme and dresses.  Select flowers that suit the overall big picture, research what you can and collect images that you like.

4.  Budget - Don't overspend! It's surprising what can be done on a small budget with the right florist who knows how to source items and materials cost effectively.

5.  Problem flowers -  I would advise to stay away from choosing certain types of flowers that may have a regretful result.  Lillies can be annoying with their irregular stems, pollen spikes, tendency to suddenly open at odd times and fragility with bruising.

Some Chrysanthemums and Stock have a musty smell.

Tulips are lovely but will bend towards the light (phototropic) which can put an arrangement out of balance if not packed together and also can wilt quickly.

Waterlillies and sunflowers are the same and can look awfully clumsy.

Lisianthus are pretty and very feminine but they often get squashed flat in transit and they have irregular stems as well, good for oasis holders thou

Long lasting flowers - Orchid, Carnation, Calla Lilly, Alstromeria, Protea, Luecospermum, Chrysanthemum, Hypericum berrries, spray roses, Gerberas.

*~ Note we have our own freshly cut Roses/Lavender & Rosemary supply and hand select other flowers fresh from the Brissy Markets.

Flower orders ought to be made 2 weeks prior to your Wedding.  It is sometimes a good idea to visit the local wholesaler and look at what they have in store, you can do this with the florist.  Hopefully that will be myself.  You also have a choice of natural wrapped stems or oasis bouquet holder, depending on the look you want, just ask Roze.
